Governor Uduaghan appoints New Permanent Secretaries

Uduaghan said, “A strong public service holds the key for solid growth and development in any society. No society that has diversified its economy, achieved growth and development without a strong and dedicated public service.”

Edith Okowa, wife of the senator representing Delta North in the National Assembly, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, was appointed Permanent Secretary in the Delta State Civil Service.

A statement was released by the Special Assistant (Media and Communication) to Senator Okowa, Mr. Jonathan Onwuka on Tuesday, saying the ceremony was witnessed by a large crowd of family members, friends and well-wishers and presided over by the state governor who administered the oath of office on the new appointees.

The statement quoted Uduaghan as informing the new permanent secretaries that their appointments were “necessitated by available vacancies in the state’s civil service,” adding that their selection was based on their “consistent diligence and dedication to duty.”

The governor also told the new state officials that their coming on board was to help to strengthen the administrative capacity of the state in its drive for the “Delta beyond Oil” agenda, which he said was to shift attention from dependence on oil as economic sustenance of the state to agriculture and other resources.
