Gov Uduaghan blames Internal Crisis for PDP’s Defeat at 2015 Polls
The Delta State governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, has blamed the poor performance of the People’s Democratic Party in the just concluded general elections on neglect by some members of the party.
Governor Uduaghan, while speaking on a political program on Monday, said that the party lost some substance by creating fanning in the Governors’ Forum, as some members of the party thought Forum was becoming too powerful.
He also accused the then Chairman of the party of deepening the crisis by writing queries to Governors. According to him, the crisis and the impunity in the party caused the defection of five governors.
He went ahead to downplay performance by PDP officials as the reason for failure at the elections, claiming that irregularities and lack of fairness during the party’s primaries was a bigger reason for the loss, while also noting his own failure to secure the PDP’s senatorial ticket.
He however said he would remain in the party as he believes defection won’t help rebuild the party.
He also expressed his expectations of the incoming administration, while advising Gen. Buhari to adopt a style of leadership that would unite all Nigerians irrespective of the voting pattern during the 2015 polls.
