Glasgow Commonwealth Games: Nigeria Rakes 3 Gold Medals on Day 7

Nigeria’s Maryam Usman won the women’s +75 kg gold to take the Country to the top of the weightlifting medals table at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland on Wednesday.
Usman scored 125 in snatch and155 in clean and jerk for a total of 280 at the Clyde Auditorium, leaving the defending champion, Samoa’s Ele Opeloge to the silver after a total of 271. Tracy Lambrechs of New Zealand won the bronze medal after a total of 237.
Nigeria’s gold tally was also boosted by Aminat Adeniyi’s and Odunayo Adekuroye’s wins in the women’s freestyle wrestling in the 58kg and the 53kg categories respectively.
Nigeria is now eighth on the overall medals table at the end of Day 7 of the competition, with six gold, five silver and eight bronze, a total of 19 medals.
England has now replaced Australia at the top of the table with 38 gold and 105 medals in total, Australia has 35 gold and 106 medals while Canada follows in third place with 22 gold and 51 medals. Hosts Scotland are fourth with 13 gold and 39 medals, their best ever medals tally since the inception of the Commonwealth games.
South Africa stands in seventh place with 9 gold and 31 medals while Kenya occupies the number 9 spot with 5 gold and 12 medals.
