Ganduje slashes political office holders’ salaries, allowances by 50%, reduces ministries

In other to reduce cost of governance in his state, Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje on Saturday announced a 50 per cent cut in the salaries and allowances of all political officer holders in the state. Numbers of the ministries were also reduced from 19 to 14.
The measure was announced during the swearing in ceremony of 13 new commissioners for the state.
“I hereby announce that the salaries and allowances of all political office holders are reduced by 50 per cent.
“We shall pursue an aggressive internal revenue generation in view of the dwindling oil revenue from the federation account as business will no longer be as usual”, Ganduje said.
According to him, the commissioners were selected on merit and urged them to deploy their expertise to the service of the state.
The governor to them to discharge their responsibilities with utmost sense of accountability, transparency and fear of Allah.
Ganduje put his deputy, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar in-charge of Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. Other commissioners are, the immediate past NUJ President, Malam Mohammed Garba, Commissioner of Information, Youth and Culture; Dr Kabir Getso, Commissioner for Health; Prof. Kabir Dandago, Commissioner for Finance; Alhaji Murtala Garo; Local Government and Community Development and Haruna Falali, Commissioner for Justice.
Also sworn-in are, Alhaji Usman Ririwai, Commissioner for Water Resources and Rural Development; Hajiya Zubaida Sharif, Commissioner for Women Affairs; Alhaji Ali Makoda, Commissioner for Environment; Hajiya Aisha Mohammed-Bello, Commissioner for Planning and Budget; Alhaji Rabi’u Bako, Commerce; Garba Lambu, Commissioner for Works and Housing and Alhaji Faruk BB Faruk, Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning.
