G.O.K. Ajayi Championed Cause of Progressives- Amosun
Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has expressed his condolence to the legal community on the death of foremost lawyer, Chief Godwin Olusegun Kolawole Ajayi (SAN).
Amosun described the legendary legal luminary, popularly called G.O.K. as consistent, forthright and famous, noting that the roles he played in several high profile cases “championed the cause of progressives.
“I remember cases such as the 12 2/3 suit of Awolowo vs Shagari over the 1979 Presidential election, the Abdul Rahman Shugaba vs Minister of Internal Affairs and the legal battle of the late Chief M.K.O. Abiola following the annulment of the June 12, 1993 Presidential election, among others, which are still reference point till today.”
In a press release signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mrs Funmi Wakama, Amosun said he joined members of the bar and the bench as well as other Nigerians to mourn the passing of this “last colossus of first generation of Nigerian lawyers.
“He was a progressive lawyer and that explains his closeness to the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo. His death is a great loss to the legal community”, the governor said.
Amosun urged the family, friends and associates G.O.K. to take solace in the fact that he led a good and disciplined life which etched his footprints in the sands of time.
He prayed to the almighty God to grant him eternal rest and his family the fortitude to bear the loss.
