Fifteen Killed, Many wounded As Explosions Rock Bayero University
Multiple explosions and gunshots were heard on Sunday morning near a lecture hall at the old campus of Bayero University Kano.
Security personnel were seen scrambling to gain entrance into the university soon after the explosions.
According to eyewitnesses reports, 15 people have been reportedly killed and many more wounded in an attack on Christian worshippers in lecture theatre ii and iii of old Bayero University, Kano.
A university worker who craved anonymity told news men he saw 15 lifeless body being carried from the site of the attack, while many others were being treated for various degrees of injuries.
Meanwhile, Kano state commissioner of police who confirmed the sunday morning attack said 8 people lost their lives in the attack and several others sustained injury.
An official of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA),Abubakar Jibril confirmed that at least three explosions had struck the old campus of the university and neigbhouring areas. He said sporadic gunfire was still ongoing.
Jibril said rescue officials could not reach the site as an apparent terrorist attack was still underway.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the militant sect, Boko Haram group is known to be active in Kano.
Boko Haram carried out a bombing in Kano in January that killed about 150 people, its deadliest attack to date.
