By Oladunjoye Opeyemi
Nigeria’s Flamingoes finished head of their group by beating Mexico 3–0 at the ongoing Under-17 Women’s World Cup at Estadio Nacional on March 23, 2014 in San Jose, Costa Rica.
The Flamingoes beat Mexico with a deserved 3-0 scoreline to leapfrog their opponents at the top of Group D and set up a quarter-final showdown with Spain who beat Paraguay 7-1 to qualify for the quarter-final stage.
The Nigerian Girls rarely looked like they were being hauled in after racing to an early 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Rasheedat Ajibade and Uchenna Kanu while Aminat Yakubu completed the rout and was subsequently named the Player of the Match.
Mexico will now play Japan, who are deemed the best team at the competition as China PR and Colombia have exited. In other Quarter-final matches, Venezuela will face Canada, while Ghana play Italy.
The Matches will be played on Thursday, 27th of March.
