FG Reveals Plans to Train Teachers Overseas

Sharing is caring!

The Federal government has revealed plans to train school teachers outside the country in order to make the teacher profession appealing to highly intelligent and fresh Nigerian graduates.

The recently-appointed Minister of State for Education, Viola Onwuliri, said at a media briefing in Abuja that the government was determined to develop the public education sector which she claimed is in a terrible state and at an all time low quality. She also bemoaned the little reward available for teachers among common occurrences of strikes.

Onwuliri said plans are in place to effect change in the sector soon and that the training in other countries was part of the new strategy to upgrade and strengthen the Nigerian educational sector. She added that there will also be provision of additional learning and research facilities.

The minister claimed students who score low grades in their certificate examinations would no longer be sent to colleges of education while those with high grades awarded scholarship to further their education and teach children at the end of their education.

While urging teachers to positively impact their students, she also called for promotion of the education of female children, saying it would reduce cases of violence, rape and abuse of girls in the society.
