Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security Trains and Empowers 120 Poultry Farmers in Kogi, Ogun and Oyo States
The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has trained and empowered 120 Poultry farmers in Kogi, Ogun and Oyo States on Poultry production with a major focus on Broilers production as a sustainable livelihood way of making and earning incoming. The major participants were youth and women drawn from all the Senatorial districts of Kogi, Ogun and Oyo States.
While declaring the training open the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security Dr. Ernest Umakhihe represented by the Southwest Regional Director Mrs Abimbola Akeredolu said “ the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security is committed to promoting and facilitating policies aimed at making Nigeria self sufficient in food production’. Akeredolu also said that the training and empowerment was to expose the smallholders farming to the profitability of broilers production as a commercial business to earn a sustained living’
Welcoming the participants, Dr Deola Lordbanjou, a Director in the Department of Agricultural Extension Services advised the participants to take advantage of smallholders poultry production enterprise which is highly profitable and can give farmers a flow of steady income.
The 120 participants trained in two locations; Abeokuta for Ogun and Oyo States and Lokoja for Kogi State. They were exposed to modern technologies of broilers production. Each participant was given day old chicks and feeds to raise them especially for the upcoming season. A participant at the training Bunmi Olatunde was full of praise and commendation for the valuable training and empowerment opportunity given to them by the Ministry. He said “we are very grateful for this training which has indeed exposed us further to the modern technologies of broilers production and also for the production support which is targeted towards festive season of December”
Present at the training to give words of encouragement to the participants were the State Coordinators of Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in Oyo, Ogun and Kogi States, Dr Florence Kakulu, Dr Funmi Ayo-Ajayi and Mr Shekamang Ayuba respectively.
