“Federal Government is fully committed to the growth and development of sports in Nigeria” – Okonjo-Iweala

The Federal Government through the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has assured the Super Eagles that funds to prosecute their World Cup campaign next year in Brazil are available.

She said this wile speaking at the flagging off of the NBA Baskeball Clinic for Secondary Schools in Abuja and insisted that the government was fully committed to the growth and development of sports in the country.

She claimed ignorance about the fact that the Nigeria Football Federation is owing Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi, saying,“This has not been brought to my attention, ask the Minister of Sports about it. Everything he has brought to us, we have acted on it. This has not been brought before us.

“So please better look inside the governance and management of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to find out whether there is something else happening there.

“If it is a question of finance, let them come to us, we have not had it put on my table because if it comes, we will take care of it.”
