Fayemi Faults Fayose’s N84bn Debt Claim

Sharing is caring!

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has addressed his successor, Ayo Fayose’s claim that he left an N84bn debt, saying he should duly study his hand-over note before making such “reckless” allegations.

According to PUNCH newspapers, the Commissioner for Information under the Fayemi administration, Tayo Ekundayo, when contacted said that all credit facilities and expenses were documented, including a N25bn loan obtained from the capital market in Lagos state.

Ekundayo, who also claimed that the N14bn had been paid out of the N25bn debt, and that the Federal Government owed Ekiti State about N20bn, said, “Fayose should study the hand-over note carefully before making comment on the debt profile of the state. I have been hearing that the debt profile of Ekiti State now stands at N84bn.

“I want to say that it is nothing near that figure. We have noticed that tendency in the past, but we have refused to join issues with him. It is too early for Fayose to be talking about us.

“He should understand that there is a difference between being a candidate of a party and an executive of a state.”
