The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola has said fair play and honesty are the basic tenets for good governance. He made this remark today (August 27) while fielding questions from Lagosians during a question-and-answer session that was facilitated by the Spirit of Lagos Initiative on twitter.

“I value fair play, honesty and admire people that keep their word; I think those are the basic values for good governance and the Spirit of Lagos campaign is all about having the proper values especially because a good momentum has been built in Lagos over the last four years, and if more people join in the campaign with the right attitude and values, Lagos can only get better,” Fashola said.

The governor also stressed the relevance of youths’ participation in bringing about the needed change, and performing the required social responsibility initiatives towards a better Lagos, adding that the government cannot work without the support of the masses, especially the youths.

“Young people have the biggest role to play. They need the right values, skills and must resolve to get involved in activities aimed at improving the State by obeying the law, paying taxes and contributing to the commonwealth development share of their respective communities, because the success of the people is also the success of the state,” he said.

Commenting on the outbreak of the Ebola virus in the State and efforts made to nip the situation in the bud, Fashola praised all health workers who have displayed remarkable courage and unflinching honesty in grounding the virus.

In a similar vein, the governor commended the Spirit of Lagos initiative for pushing out affective campaigns that are poised to change people’s mindset towards returning Lagos to what it used to be – a safe, just, prosperous and neighbourly place to live in and visit in the past.
