F-18 fighter jet crashes in Suffolk shortly after taking off from RAF Lakenheath
An F-18 fighter jet is reported to have crashed in Suffolk.
The crash is believed to have happened shortly after the jet left the RAF Lakenheath airbase this morning.
The jet is believed to have hit the ground around five miles north west of Lakenheath.
Early reports suggest the pilot ejected from the plane shortly before the crash.
It is not yet known if there have been any injuries or fatalities.
The jet is understood to have been one of six returning from the Middle East at the time of the crash.
Despite being an RAF base, RAF Lakenheath hosts United States Air Force units and personel.
