Etisalat’s CEO resigns

Telecommunications company,Etisalat Nigeria has lost its Chief Executive Officer, Steven Evans, after he resigned last month and returned to the U.K.

Evans, who was CEO of BT Mobile and Director of Wireless Broadband at BT before Etisalat, led the company for five years.

According to the company’s website, he was appointed CEO in December 2008; two months after the UAE-based firm commenced full commercial operations in Nigeria, due to his twenty-year track record in the global mobile telecommunications industry.

As of June 2013, Evans had helped to garner over 15.3 million subscribers, making Etisalat the fourth-largest mobile phone operator in Nigeria, based on the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) release.

Chief Commercial Officer Matthew Willsher has been selected to replace him in the interim, the company’s spokeswoman, Chineze Amanfo disclosed.
