Etche Oil Wells Suit: Amaechi flays FG’s refusal to respond
Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi has flayed the Federal Government’s refusal to respond to the suit it filed over the ceding of Etche oil wells to Abia State.
Amaechi said that the state government had taken the Federal Government to court over the Etche oil wells, adding that for over one year, the Federal Government has not replied their notice because they have no reason for ceding the oil wells to Abia State.
“We have filed a case in the court; this is one year now, they have not replied us because they have no reason for ceding the oil wells. We shall drive them out of Etche politics; they can’t defeat us in Etche even with the army and police,” he stated.
The Rivers State governor has also criticized a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Prince Emma Anyanwu over a recent statement that the people of Etche ethnic nationality had adopted the supervising Minister for Education, Nyesom Wike as their candidate for the 2015 governorship elections in the state.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Eketa Igbodo ultra modern market built by the Barrister Reginald Ukwuoma-led administration at the Umuine Primary School field, Igbodo, Etche LGA, Friday, Governor Amaechi said Prince Anyanwu cannot speak for the people of Etche nationality because he lacked the courage and determination to ask the Presidency to return 41 oil wells taken from the area by the Federal Government.
Governor Amaechi explained that his refusal to award Prince Emma Anyanwu any contact was because of his inability to complete the law faculty building at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Nkpolu awarded to him by the Dr Peter Odili administration when he was the Speaker of the state House of Assembly.
According to him, Prince Emma Anyanwu abandoned the law faculty project, adding that even the works he did at the site were of low standard.
He advised the PDP chieftain to retire from active politics, adding that his continuous stay in politics will give room for the younger ones to insult him.
He urged the people of the area to register with the APC and take power from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015, adding that it was the only way their oil wells can be restored.
In his address, the Chairman of Etche Local Government Council, Bar Regnald Ukwuoma assured the governor of the support of the people in his quest to reclaim the oil wells taken away from the area.
Ukwuoma posited that the people of the area would continue to follow APC and support the governor’s intention, adding that their unflinching support to Governor Amaechi cannot be compromised.
