EPL: Chelsea Return to The Top of League Table as Manchester Duo Record Massive Wins

Sharing is caring!

Manchester City FC defeated Southampton FC 4-1 to move third, a point behind Premier League leaders Liverpool FC with a game in hand, and 2 points behind Current league leader Chelsea FC.

Goals from Mohammed Salah, Frank Lampard, Willian help Chelsea beat Stoke City 3-0, seeing them back on top of the league table, over Liverpool who will play against West Ham United tomorrow.

After last weekend’s draw at Arsenal FC, title-chasing City were given a boost when Yaya Touré converted a penalty after just three minutes while Rickie Lambert responded with a spot-kick of his own.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men completed the rout with David Silva, Edin Džeko and Stevan Jovetić putting their names on the scoresheet as a knee injury to in-form Jay Rodriguez compounded Southampton’s misery.

Meanwhile, Manchester United FC matched their neighbours’ four-goal haul in their visit to Newcastle United FC. Juan Mata scored in each half of the match – the first a stunning free-kick – and contributed a stylish backheeled assist for Adnan Januzaj after Javier Hernández had made it three.

Over to contenders at the bottom of the table, Morgan Amalfitano’s 16th-minute goal earned West Bromwich Albion FC a crucial win over fellow strugglers Norwich City FC in their fight against relegation. West Brom replace the Canaries in 16th on goal difference – the pair are five points clear of the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Leicester City were promoted to the Premier League after a combination of results in the Championship on Saturday went in their favour.

Rivals, QPR and Derby went down 2-1 and 1-0 to Bournemouth and Middlesbrough respectively after Leicester beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 on Friday, meaning the Foxes will line up in the top flight for the first time in 10 years next season.
