El-Rufai to reduce commissioners, agencies
True to the All Progressives Congress, APC, campaign promise to cut down the cost of governance in the country, the Kaduna State Government has concluded plans to merge some of the state ministries, agencies and also cut down the number of Commissioners into the State Executive Council.
The former FCT minister will also reduce the number of political appointees on the state payroll.
El-Rufai made this known while receiving the leadership of the Northern Christian Elders Forum, which comprises Christian leaders and Traditional leaders from 19 northers states in the country at the Government House Kaduna.
The governor told his visitors who had called on him to seek his collaboration in the areas of religious intolerance in the state that what he met on groung on assumption of office brought the idea of cutting down the number of political appointees and ministries in the state.
This he said is also in consideration of the enormity of the expectations of the people to develop the state.
The Governor further explained that the harsh economic situation where states could no longer pay salaries of civil servants and execute capital projects, necessitated his decision to reduce the number of political appointees and ministries.
According to the governor, he would not like to maintain a bogus cabinet like his predecessors whereby public funds are largely spent on political appointees at the detriment of the ordinary indigenes.
El-Rufai and his deputy had during their inauguration announced the slashing their salary by 50%.
To him this is the only way to reduce the cost of governance and save money for the development of the state.
