Ekiti State House of Assembly Resumes After Defection of Six APC Lawmakers to PDP

The Ekiti State House of Assembly has resumed from the one-month recess declared by its Speaker, Adewale Omirin, after six All Progressives Congress lawmakers defected to the Peoples Democratic Party during the inauguration ceremony of new governor, Ayo Fayose.

The Special Adviser to the Speaker on Media affairs, Wole Olujobi, made this known just four days after the recess was declared, saying that the decision to resume was in the interest of the public.

Olujobi also said that there would be no tension when the members of the state House of Assembly had their sitting, although the Speaker had earlier alleged that the defected members were planning to impeach him and elect a new Speaker among themselves.

According to The PUNCH newspapers, newly sworn-in governor, Fayose has been trying to get more APC members to defect to his party by offering them special packages.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Idowu Adelusi, however denied this saying he was not aware of any meeting between the governor and the lawmakers.
