Ekiti Chief Judge frees 28 inmates from prisons g
The Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Ayodele Daramola, has set free 28 awaiting trial inmates from various prisons in the state during an inspection visit.
The Chief Judge, who made the disclosure on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti, said that the visit was to decongest the prison.
He said that some of the inmates had no cases to answer from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), while others were released on bail.
Daramola condemned the high rate of rape cases in the state, saying that rape and armed robbery were almost competing for prominence in the society.
He urged Non Governmental Organisations (NGO) to carry out more enlightening programmes on rape for both young and old men alike.
In his remark at the occasion, the Comptroller General (CG) of Prison, Mr Mohammed Mustapha, commended the Chief Judge embarking on the visit to decongest the prisons.
He advised the freed inmates to be of good behavior and urged them not to commit crime which could bring them back to the prisons.
One of the freed inmates, Musa Bello commended the chief judge and pledged not to go back to his crime. (NAN)
