Eguavoen Advises Keshi to Focus on AFCON Qualifiers Despite Lack of Contract
Former Super Eagles coach, Austin Eguavoen has advised the present coach, Stephen Keshi, to focus on the team’s impending 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan rather than the delay of his contract extension.
Keshi has been out of a contract with the Super Eagles since the World Cup in Brazil ended and Eguavoen who led Nigeria to the 2006 African Cup of Nations in Egypt said he needs to be focused to get the needed results against Sudan.
“I think we should all support Keshi and do things that will encourage him rather than making him feel that his efforts are not appreciated, the two matches against Sudan are very crucial and we should not miss one from the two,” he said.
“Keshi has been on the job for a while now and he has done so much to take this team to where it is today, I can only tell him to remain focused and make sure that the issue of contract extension does not distract his focus.
“I know how it feels for a coach to go into crucial games without having solid contract and mostly when he is expected to perform magic, so we should support him and also pray for the team as well.”
Nigeria will need maximum points in the two matches to remain in contention for the 2015 African Cup of Nations after losing 3-2 to the Red Devils of Congo and playing a draw with the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in their last two games in the qualifiers.
