EFCC clamps down on Ex-Governors; to Interrogate Sule Lamido and Martin Elechi over Mismanagement of Funds
Former governors of Jigawa and Ebonyyi states, Sule Lamido and Martin Elechi, have been summoned for interrogation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over allegations of diversion of state funds during their tenures.
Lamido was reportedly served questioning notices over allegations of money laundering and is due to report at the commission’s office on June 17, while Elechi is to answer questions for mismanagement of the State/Local Government Joint Account on June 16.
According to sources, one of Lamido’s sons had earlier been questioned and three of his children will now answer to the allegations also.
Elechi, on his part, is due to answer questions, following the interrogation of some key officials in his administration when his tenure was still on. Those officials include the Permanent Secretary in the Ebonyi Ministry of Works, Cornelius Onwe; the Accountant General, Edwin Igbele; ex-Commissioner for Finance Timothy Ogbonnaya Odaa; and ex- Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Cele Nwali.
Elechi’s son, Nnanna, had also reported been questioned by the commission over his involvement in money laundering.
