Don’t allow yourselves to be used for political thuggery – Ajimobi charges YES-O cadets
Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has warned members of the reconstituted Youth Empowerment Scheme of Oyo State (YES-O) not to allow themselves to be used as political thugs during the forthcoming general elections.
He stated this while addressing the YES-O cadets at the Remembrance Arcade, Government House, Agodi Ibadan on Friday.
The governor said that his administration did not put up the scheme for the purpose of using them for election but as a fulfillment of its promise to ensure that unemployment was reduced to the barest minimum.
He promised that his administration would do everything humanly possible to strengthen the Youth Empowerment Scheme of Oyo State (YES-O) and ensure that the scheme’s cadets are gainfully employed.
It would be recalled that the YES-O scheme, which saw the employment of 20,000 youths, was disbanded by the state government in September 2013 due to the excesses of some of the cadets, but was later reconstituted and re-invigorated.
The governor, who described the scheme as the flagship of his administration, said it had contributed immensely to the urban renewal policy of the state government.
He enjoined the cadets to make themselves ambassadors of truth and honesty by explaining to members of the public the policies and programmes of government as well as its achievements in the last three and a half years.
Earlier, the State Coordinator of the scheme, Mr. Olawale Folarin said that the cadets decided to organize the rally as a way of showing solidarity and support for the Ajimobi administration for the opportunity he had given them through the scheme.
He commended the state government for its unprecedented achievements in the areas of youth empowerment and urban renewal policy.
Folarin said that government had performed creditably well when compared with past administrations, especially in the areas of social and infrastructural development.
