Doctor Convicted of Killing Wife Sentenced to 20 Years to Life in Prison

Sharing is caring!

A Syracuse-area doctor, Robert Neulander, who was found guilty of killing his wife has been sentenced to 20 years to life in prison.

Leslie Neulander’s September 2012 death was initially thought to be an accident caused by a fall in the shower in the Neulander’s DeWitt home. But an anonymous letter was one factor that allowed the case to be reopened.

A trial followed and in early April of this year Robert Neulander was found guilty of second-degree murder and tampering with evidence.

In May the defense called for a new trial based on alleged inappropriate communication between a sitting juror and an alternate who had been dismissed from the case.

According to court documents, the juror admitted to a conversation with the former alternate, but only after the alternate was dismissed. Judge Miller decided based on that among other factors — there would be no new trial.

Neulander’s attorney is still planning to move forward with an appeal of the conviction.
