In a terse statement by the former speaker’s media aide, Nkem Osu, the erstwhile speaker was said to have resigned on his personal resolve to pave the way for a new leadership of the House

The new speaker, Hon Peter Onwusanya representing Oshimili South Constituency in the House was the Deputy Majority Whip of the Assembly until he emerged as the speaker.

In a letter addressed to the Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon Basil Ganagana, former speaker said he hoped the new leadership will take the state and the House to a higher level, having contributed his quota in that regard.

According to him: “I wish to thank all those, numerous and many who made my tour of duty a pleasant affair further. To you my esteemed colleagues, I remain grateful for your love and camaraderie we shared while it lasted.”

Hon Ochei prayed that God in His infinite wisdom will avail his successor and indeed the House of all human sagacity in the task of accentuating the core ideals of the Legislature as a partner in governance, for a better society.
