Degun, Ogun First Head of Service Dies at 86
The first Secretary to the Military Government and Head of Service in Ogun State, Chief Adedotun Adedeji Kayode Degun has died at the age of 86.
The Ogun State Government announced the death of late Degun in a statement issued by the Head of Service (HoS), Mrs. Modupe Adekunle in Abeokuta yesterday.
“He started his career as an Education Officer (Education) in October, 1958 and rose to the level of Permanent Secretary in October, 1968, serving in the Ministries of Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Finance, Trade and Co-operatives and Works and Training as well as the Office of the Military Governor.
“Chief Degun became Secretary to the Military Government and Head of Service on 9th February, 1976 and voluntarily retired from the Public Service on 31st July, 1979 at the age of 51.
“Late Chief Degun was conferred with National Honours of Commander of the Niger (CON) in October, 1979 and also bagged the Ogun State Government Special Merit Award in April, 1991.
“It would be recalled that the deceased delivered a paper titled ‘The Civil Service in Nigeria: Past, Present and Future held on Wednesday, 20th March, 2013 at the Hubert Ogunde Hall, June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta”, it added.
The deceased, popularly called A.A.K. was until his death the life patron of the Association of Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries in Ogun State and also a holder of the traditional title of Madasa of Ijebuland.
