Nigerian musician, David Adeleke aka Davido, is set to continue his award-sweeping trend this year as he and South Africa’s Mafikizolo are the most nominated artistes at the first ‎edition of the All African Music Awards, AFRIMA, with six nods each.

While Davido and Mafikizolo share two nominations -Best Collaboration and Best Songwriter- for their song, Tchelete; the 21-year-old also got another Best Collaboration nomination for the song, Number One, with Diamond Platinum.

His nominations also included Best Male Artiste West Africa.
Other artistes with multiple nominations include: Tiwa Savage (Nigeria), two; Uhuru (South Africa), five; Mi Casa (South Africa), four; Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania), two; Amr Diab (Egypt), two; Zahara (South Africa) three; Angelique Kidjo (Benin Republic), two.

Don Jazzy made the Africa Producer of the Year category for the song, Eminado, alongside top contenders: South Africa’s Robbie Malinga & Mojela Thebe for ‘Impilo’; and fellow Nigerians, Oskido and Shizzi for Tchelete; Mikky Me, Down and Del’B, Pull Over.

30 of the 33 award categories would be open to voting by the public and the AFRIMA Academy of Voters while the recipients of the AFRIMA Legend Award and the Africa Entertainment/Music Journalist Award will be decided by the International Committee of AFRIMA and announced at the main awards ceremony on Sunday, November 9.

In partnership with the African Union Commission, All Africa Music Awards will be preceded by the AFRIMA Music Village between November 4 and 7, a four-day festival style open concert of non-stop music, fanfare and exhibition from countries in Africa and performances by African artistes.

Also, African Music Summit will hold November 6 to 7, with the theme, “Reviving the Business of Music in Africa”.
