Davido, Mafikizolo, Clarence Peters Dominate at MAMA 2014

Davido, Mafikozolo, Uhuru and Clarence Peters were the big winners at the fourth edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards which held in Durban, South Africa, on Saturday night.
4-time nominee, Davido walked away with the Best Male and Artist of the Year awards while Mafikizolo, also 4-time nominees, triumphed in the Best Group and Song of The Year categories.
Nigerian video Director, Clarence Peters won two awards – Transform Today by Absolut, and Best Video. Uhuru won the award for Best Collaboration for his part in “Y-tjukutja” by Uhuru Ft. Oskido, DJ Bucks, Professor and Yuri Da Cunha, and in the Song of the Year.
In this year’s newly introduced lifestyle award categories, Kenyan Actress, Lupita Nyong’o took home the award for Personality of the Year, while The inaugural MTV Base Leadership award was won by Tanzanian entrepreneur, Ashish J. Thakkar.
The show was hosted by american comedian and actor, Marlon Wayans and televised globally. As with MAMA tradition, unlikely artistes were teamed up for Performances, such as Trey songz and D’banj; Miguel and Sarkodie; Mafikizolo, Fally Ipupa, Sauti Sol and Flavour.
There were also performances by double-award winner, Uhuru; the Mavin crew; and american rapper, French Montana, closed the show.
Speaking after the show, Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa, said: “Tonight’s MAMA 2014 was truly spectacular and a true testament to the passion, commitment and creativity of contemporary music, youth culture and achievement on the African continent.”
