Dame Jonathan Rubbishes Gov Amaechi’s Bribery Allegations
The First Lady of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan, has addressed allegations by Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State that she receives money from the Former Minister of Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, as “laughable and ridiculous”.
Governor Amaechi had on Saturday, claimed that Wike, who is also the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers state, pays the First lady an amount of $1m (N199m) monthly in exchange for political favour.
Dame Jonathan released a statement via her media aide, Ayo Adewuyi, denying the accusation.
He said: “The allegation that the First Lady is collecting money from Chief Wike monthly is laughable and ridiculous. You cannot but hear things like this from someone who is home alone.”
Wike had earlier denied the claim in a statement by his media aide, Simeon Nwakudu, describing Amaechi’s allegation as false and asking the governor to respond to the allegations of corruption against him.
