Strategy embarked upon by the governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose to woo students and others to his side for June 21 election through rice and money distribution has boomerang.
Fayose had openly shared branded bags of rice and money to electorates especially students of Ekiti State University an act some Nigerians see as inducement, which is contrary to electoral law.
Reactions are now trailing the act on social media, especially Twitter.
Nasir El-Rufai @elrufai wrote on his account: “PDP bribes you in one day & then loots treasury for the next 4 years,” he tweeted.
International award winning actress, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde said on her @Realomosexy tweeted, such act should be punishable under the law. “Isn’t sharing of things during Elections by political parties Bribery and corruption/manipulation? why is this not a crime under the Law,?”.
Abang Mercy wrote: “And Ayo Fayose of PDP is donating rice, stealing the future of our people… Stomach infrastructure democracy. We have work to do really,” she tweeted.
Tony Atambi Esq. said sharing bags of rice was not acceptable. “Whether it was Fayose or Fayemi that gave those bags of rice, it is unjustified. We should move away from this kind of politics,” he wrote.
Ògbẹ́ni Dípò said Fayose was not the only candidate sharing rice. “We must be clear that it is not just AYO FAYOSE who doles out rice and beans to citizens. Most of our politicians do this.”
