Local communities around Gurara dam have pledged to cooperate with authorities in the construction of the Dam in Kaduna.

The communities gave this assurance when a delegation led by Minister of Water Resources, Sarah Reng Ochekpe paid the communities a visit to solicit for their cooperation.

While thanking government through the minister the communities assured her of their continued support and cooperation with the ministry and the Federal Government for other activities of the dam.

They expressed gratitude to the ministry for facilitating the Gurara Water Project to the stage of completion where it is now.

The communities however, drew the attention of the minister to the road construction work which Salini Nigeria is handling saying the non-casting of the spill-way under the fly-over bridge posed danger to the lives of the people as well as the transfer of electricity to the communities.

In her response, the Minister extended her appreciation and that of the Federal Government of Nigeria to the communities for the cooperation shown in the construction of the Gurara Dam.

She reiterated President Goodluck Jonathan passion for all-round development of the economy and particularly the water sector because of the economic and social importance of the resources.

“Because what we do in Water sector has direct benefits and impact on the lives of Nigerians, Mr. President is particularly concerned about the transformation of the sector,” Ochekpe stated.

The project involves civil and ancillary works for the construction of the Gurara Dam, 52.5 m high and 3 km long at the crest with a reservoir of approximately 880million m³ of water.
