The Ogun State Independent electoral commission (OGSIEC) has rejected the Councillorship and Chairmanship candidates list of Engr. Bayo Dayo faction of People Democratic Party (PDP) in the October 8 Local government areas (LGAs) and Local Council development areas (LCDAs) elections in Ogun State despite being the recognised faction in the eye of the law.

The commission announced this today at the News Conference organized in Abeokuta to update the public on the coming election. According to the Chairman of the Screening committee of the OGSIEC, Barr. Mutiu Agboke, he said the commission relied on the interlocutory order of Ogun State High Court, Abeokuta on the issue which ordered OGSIEC, INEC and Police to recognize Hon. Sikirullah Ogundele led executives. The commission then said the list of candidates from Hon. Sikirullah Ogundele faction will be accepted and recognized.

This step is however contradictory to the directive of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, which directed OGSIEC, through a letter, to recognise the Bayo Dayo Executives. The Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed Makarfi had also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (I‎NEC) and Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) to recognise Eng. Bayo Dayo’s faction as the authentic party executives in Ogun State.

Senator Makarfi said both INEC and
OGSIEC should accord Dayo the necessary co-operation ahead of the October 8 local government elections in the state. Speaking with nigerianecho.com, the Publicity Secretary of PDP in the State, Bolaji Adeniji said OGSIEC was playing to the gallery with such pronouncement and that the Commission was being used by the APC administration to prevent PDP from taking part in the LG election .
