Commission Confirms Identity Of Soldier Involved In Human Rights Abuse
The Director General of the National Human Rights Commission, Professor Bem Angwe, has confirmed the identification of a soldier involved in human rights abuse in Nyanya area of the nation’s capital, Abuja, reports Channels TV.
Speaking after a meeting with military officers in Abuja on Wednesday, Professor Angwe, according to Channels TV assured Nigerians that the officer involved in the brutal act would not be spared by the military authorities.
He said that the Chief of Army Staff had sent a team of senior officers of the Nigerian Army, led by a general and other generals whom he said brought culprit to the commission.
“He [the culprit] is from the Guards Brigade. “They have taken me through the processes of administrative measures being taken at the military command to guard against abuse of human rights,” the head of the rights commission said.
Professor Angwe commended the quick response received when the request for the identification of the officer involved was made.
He said that the planned sanction would serve as a deterrent to other Nigerians who are of the habit of violating the rights of fellow citizens of the country.
