COAS tells soldiers to be professional in performing duties
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.- Gen. Tukur Buratai, on Saturday urged military officers to be professional in discharging their duties.
Buratai gave the advice when he paid a visit to the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army in Kaduna.
He said that his vision “is to have a professionally responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constitutional roles’’.
The army chief also urged the military to keep faith and oath of allegiance to Nigerians to see the end of the Boko Haram menace.
“Our mandate is not only to defeat Boko Haram, but also to help internally-displaced persons and bring back normalcy to the liberated areas affected by the insurgency,’’ he said.
He said that the mission of the army was also to return the affected areas to civil authority.
Buratai called on the military officers not to be partisan, reminding them that they should stick to their official work.
“Any officer found to be partisan will be punished; you must remain professional in your dealings.’’
He urged them to partner with other security agents to make the fight against the insurgents a success story.
“We must be our brothers’ keepers; we must be disciplined at all the time, either in uniform or in mufti,’’ he said.
He said that the military was committed to the mandate given by President Muhammadu Buhari to end Boko Haram and ensure the return of peace to the North East. (NAN)
