Civil servants laud Ajimobi for promotion of workers’ welfare
The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), Oyo State Chapter, has lauded the Governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi for his sterling leadership qualities and promotion of workers’ welfare since he came on board in 2011.
The State Chairman of the ASCSN, Mr. Emmanuel Ogundiran, gave the commendation when he led members of the association to an interactive session with the governor at the Executive Chambers of the Governor’s Office.
He said that leaders of the union decided to meet with the governor to show appreciation for his good gestures and friendly disposition to workers and to also remind him of the need to do more to continue to boost their morale.
Ogundiran said, “We are here to appreciate His Excellency for the good gestures he has extended to us. For the first time in the history of the state, he was at our delegate conference to declare it open. It has never happened before.
“For emphasis, our association is legalized to take charge of the welfare of workers from Grade Level 7 and above, including directors in the ministries. We want to appreciate the governor for the good work he has been doing in the state in general.
“We also thank him for the recognition he has accorded to the ASCSN in Oyo State. We are also here to discuss our workers’ welfare with the governor; especially on the need for him to do more to continue to boost our morale.”
In his response, the governor commended the state’s civil servants for their understanding, dedication to duty and for being supportive of his administration in the past three and a half years.
Assuring the senior civil servants of his resolve to continue to promote the interest of the workforce above any other interest, Governor Ajimobi said the civil service remains the fulcrum that holds the state.
Governor Ajimobi reminded the workers’ leaders that his administration had surpassed his predecessors with regards to workers’ welfare and reward for exceptional performance, as well as provision of physical and social infrastructure.
The governor said, “Civil servants in the state, senior and junior, have been very supportive of this administration, for which we will ever be grateful. I urge you to continue to discharge your duties dispassionately.
“I pledge before you today that if reelected the state will witness more aggressive development of all sectors of the state’s economy. My next mission is to revamp the state from its unpleasant abandonment and backwardness under previous administrations.
“As civil servants, we are not asking you to campaign for us. But look around you and call a spade a spade. We must all appreciate good governance. If we have truly improved on what we met on ground it behoves all of you to speak to the people about it.”
