China hands ex-General suspended death sentence over corruption
A disgraced former deputy to head of logistics, China’s People’s Liberation Army, was given a suspended death sentence on Monday with two years’ reprieve.
Local media reported that the Military Court found Gu Junshan, 58, guilty of corruption, bribery, embezzlement, misuse of state funds and abuse of power, the local.
The court stripped Gu of his Lieutenant General rank and his political rights for life, as well as confiscated all his personal property.
Gu was one of the first officials to be investigated in president Xi Jinping’s `tiger and flies’ anti-graft campaign against both high-ranking and lower officials.
Launched in 2012, the campaign has lasted longer and struck harder than most analysts expected.
