Child Rapists to be Castrated in New Bill Signed by El-Rufai
Kaduna State Governor, El- Rufai Nasir, has just signed a bill recommending strict punishments to child rapists following a statement on the official handle of the governor @GovKaduna. The law which was signed on Wednesday into the law penal code 2020, recommends castration of child rapists where the offender is a male and bilateral salpingectomy for female convicts.
The statement said “In addition, such convicts will be listed in the Sex Offenders Register to be published by the Attorney-General of the state.”
The statement further explained that “under the amended law, the punishment for the rape of a person older than 14 years will include surgical castration or removal of fallopian tubes, but the death penalty shall not apply.”
“In cases where the rape convict is also a child, the court shall order an appropriate punishment under the Children and Young Persons Law Cap 26, Laws of Kaduna State 1991”.
The statement stresses that these drastic penalties are required to help further protect children from a serious crime.
The new law has now come into effect in Kaduna State following the governor’s assent to the amended law on September 11.
