Former Spain international, Carles Puyol has been appointed as the new assistant director of sport at FC Barcelona.

The former Barcelona captain resumed his new job on monday, arriving at the club office for a meeting with the director, Andoni Zubizarreta.

The 36-year-old played defence for Barcelona’s first team for 15 years before retiring in 2014 after an injury-plagued season, citing that he could not reach his own expectation of himself any longer. He scored 12 goals in 392 matches and won six La Liga and three UEFA Champions League championships with the team.

He also played for the Spanish national team for 13 years, scoring thrice in 100 caps. He won the Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup tournaments. He retired in 2013.
