Call For Military Intervention: Govs Asks Security Agents To Quiz Odimegwu

Nigeria Governors Forum under the leadership of Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State yesterday berated Mr Festus Odimegwu, ex-Chairman Nigeria Population Commission over his call for military intervention in Nigeria and asked the security agencies to quiz him.
This was contained in a statement issued in Abuja by the Sole Administrator of the Forum, Earl Osaro Onaiwu.
The Forum also described Odimegwu’s utterance as disturbing and surprising coming from a self-described intellectual that ought to understand that military rule is not the panacea to the nation’s issues.
It said further, “a comparison of the giant strides the nation has witnessed within 14 years of civilian rule was a sharp contrast to the under development of Nigeria which was the hallmark of decades of military rule in Nigeria, which no Nigerian will like to experience anymore in the history of the country”.
They urged security agencies to question Odimegwu’s motive, stressing: “We call on all Nigerians to resist every attempt to demagogue civilian rule, but instead do a personal evaluation and will find that civilian rule has been of immense benefit to all even though we still have a long way to go owing to the many years of zero investment in basic infrastructure”.
The Forum commended the men and women of the military for their sacrifice in the fight against terrorism and called on them to remain focused and committed to their primary role of providing peace and security.
Odimegwu had in an interview with a national daily called for military intervention in the country.
