CAF Nominates Toure, Drogba, Mikel for 2013 African Player of the year
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the top three players for the 2013 Glo CAF awards. The contenders are Cote D’ivoire’s Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba and Nigeria’s John Obi Mikel of Nigeria.
The contenders for the African Player of the year ( based in Africa) category are Egypt’s Ahmed Fathy and Mohamed Abou Trika, alongside Nigeria’s Sunday Mba.
Yaya Toure is the reigning African Footballer of the Year while Mohamed Abou Trika is the current African player based in Africa.
The National Team of the Year award will go to either Burkina Faso, Ethiopia or Nigeria, while the Youth National team of the Year award will go to the Nigeria U-17 team. The Fair Play Award is declared to be won by the Nigerian Supporters.
Nigeria U-17’s coach, Manu Garba; Nigeria Super Eagles’ coach, Stephen Keshi; and Burkina Faso’s coach, Paul Put will fight it out for the Coach of the Year Award. The Club of the Year Award has Al Ahly, CS Sfaxien and Orlando Pirates in contention. Nominated for the Most Promising Talent award are Ebenezer Assifuah, Saleh Gomaa and Kelechi Iheanacho.
The Referee Award will go to either Alioum Neant, Haimoudi Djamel, or Papa Bakary Gassama as Bruno Metsu and Mehdi Faria are nominated for the Legend Award.
The winners will be announced on the 9th of January 2014 at the GLO-CAF Awards Gala to be held in Lagos Nigeria.
