CAF Bans Rwandan Player for Dual Registrations
Confederation of African Football (CAF) has banned Rwanda international Birori Dady from football for two years for holding two registrations with different details.
Dady, who has a Rwandan passport under his real name, also has a DR Congo passport under the name of Etekiama Agiti Tady, with different dates of birth on each. He also plays for AS Vita Club using his DR Congo passport and the name Tady.
CAF had earlier suspended Dady until further notice and disqualified Rwanda from the 2015 Africa Cup Nations qualifiers for fielding an ineligible player after a protest made by the Congo Brazzaville Football Federation after he featured in Rwanda’s second round qualifier victory over Congo in Pointe-Noir in August.
Although Rwanda maintained ignorance of Dady’s dual identity, they lost an appeal against their disqualification as CAF ruled that “the Rwandan federation was aware of this double identity but proceeded to feature the player for the national team while he held a different identity with the club”.
Congo then replaced Rwanda in the AFCON Qualifiers group stage and won their opening two matches against Nigeria and Sudan to top of the group table.
