Breaking News: Buhari Appoints New Service Chiefs, NSA

Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari Monday afternoon announced replacements for the service chiefs earlier sacked in the morning.

According to a statement by President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, Major-General Abayomi Gabriel Olonishakin is now the new Chief of Defence Staff.

Other appointments announced by the President are: Major-General Tukur Yusuf Buratai as Chief of Army Staff; ‎Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas as Chief of Naval staff; Air Vice Marshal Sadique Abubakar as Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Monday Riku Morgan as the Chief of Defence Intelligence and Major-General Babagana Monguno as the National Security Adviser.

The new Chief of Defence Staff, Maj.-Gen. Olonishakin (N/6901) hails from Ekiti State and until his today appointment was the Head of the Nigerian Army Training and Doctrine Command in Minna, Niger State.

The new Chief of Army Staff, Maj.-Gen. Buratai who hails from Borno State until Monday was the Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force which has its headquarters in N’djamena.

The new Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Ibas (NN/0746) from Cross River State until his appointment as Chief of Naval Staff was the Chief Executive Officer of Navy Holdings Limited.

The new Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar (NAF/1433) a native of Bauchi State until his new appointment today was the Chief of Administration, NAF Headquarters.

President Buhari thanks the former Service Chiefs and National Security Adviser for their services to the nation and wishes them well in their future endeavours.
The new Service Chiefs, according to Adesina will hold their appointments in an acting capacity until they were confirmed by the Senate.
