Brazil World Cup full of surprises – Chief Segun Odegbami MON

He was former captain of Green Eagles, born and bred in Jos, but of Egba extraction, actually from Wasimi in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State. Odegbami has so many faces as far as Nigerian football is concerned. Mathematical Odegbami granted NigerianEcho interview at the Victoria Hotel camp of the Super Eagles in Campinas, Brazil. He was once player of IICC Shooting Stars, and part of the team that won African Winners Cup for Nigeria in 1976, first winner of African Nations Cup in 1980, once General Manager of 3SC of Ibadan, Sole Administrator of Gateway Football Club, Ogun State; Consultant to Shell Cup and Columnist with Complete Sports. NigeriaEcho had an interview with him.

NE: Big Seg ( His admirers always call him by that name) good evening Sir.
Big Seg: Abiodun how are you? You are here again, I saw you in Curitiba, here again, you dey waka ooo.
NE: It’s not easy Sir, but we have to support Nigeria.
Big Seg: It’s good. I’m here too to see Keshi, let me finish with him then we talk.
NE: alright Sir. ( while waiting, I pressurized him, he granted interview while waiting to see Keshi as Keshi was having meeting with technical crew)
NE: what has been your impression so far of the World Cup vis a vis Super Eagles perticipation?
Big Seg: Nigeria so far has not done badly comparing many surprises in this World Cup. At least we have not conceded any goal yet and have accumulated four points, the boys have tried and will do better because there are rooms for improvement in the team.
NE: how do you feel, match against Bosnia?
Big Seg: well give it to the team, the boys fought and Enyeama was up to the task throughout the game especially the last second save that got us the three points.
NE: any player most outstanding in particular ?
Big Seg: Abiodun, they all played their heart but that young defender Omeruo, I foresee him becoming captain of the super eagles in the nearest future. The boy is so good and did a good job.
NE: are we going to qualify for the round of 16?
Big Seg: of course yes. It won’t be easy, and it can never be easy but our boys should be up to the task. Nobody can predict anything in this World Cup again with the rate of surprises in the tournament. We will qualify and in the knockout stage Nigeria will show their stuff.
