Borno State Government Encourages Parents to send Children back to School
The Borno State Government has appealed to parents in the state to send their children back to schools after the re-opening of public primary schools in Maiduguri.
The Chairman of the State Committee on the Resuscitation of Primary School Education, Dr Mohammed Dongel, made the plea during an interview in Maiduguri on Sunday, stating that the Government had made adequate provision for the security of teachers and pupils in schools.
The schools had been closed on March 17 due to violence in the state and terrorist attacks targeted at students. After several cases of invasion and kidnapping, the schools were reopened on November 19.
“I want to assure parents that government has made adequate security provisions in all schools for the protection of teachers and pupils. Parents should endeavour to send their children to school.”
He also revealed plans by the state government to embark on special project in public schools such as distribution of free uniforms to all pupils and use of instructional machines to teach students.
He said: “Governor Kashim Shettima is expected to flag off distribution of uniforms free to all pupils in public schools next week. He will also flag off provision of free daily meals in all public primary schools next week.
“We are trying to introduce e-learning in primary schools to transform our education system into world class.”
