Boko Haram: Shekau releases New Video; Denies Ceasefire Agreement, says Chibok girls have been Married off
The leader of the Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau, has released a new video stating that a ceasefire has not been reached with the Federal government as opposed to claims by the Presidency.
Shekau said that the 219 kidnapped schoolgirls who remain hostages of the group had been converted to Islam and married off, thereby ruling out any possibility of the release of the girls. He also revealed the sect have a German national in their custody since kidnapping him in Adamawa state in July.
The announcement by the islamists’ leader in the video puts to light the scepticism that followed the declaration of a ceasefire deal between the government and members of the sect on October 17 which reportedly included release of the abducted schoolgirls.
Only a few days after the declaration of the deal, the sect struck again carrying out massive attacks in some Northern states. The Federal government however, addressed the attacks, saying they were perpetuated by a different group from those negotiating with them.
