Boko Haram Ambush: 40 Soldiers Killed, 65 still Missing
At least 40 Nigerian Soldiers have been killed and 65 more have gone missing in an ambush attack on the Soldiers by men suspected to be members of the Boko Haram Sect. The attack took place in Borno State.
The casualty were detached soldiers under the 134 Battalion of the 12 Brigade under the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), stationed in Kangarwa village in Kukawa Local Government. The soldiers had conducted a reconnaissance,gathered intelligence and established the existence of Boko Haram Camps in the Area.
They further filed a report and recommending Aerial support for Ground Troops advancing into the area.
The Aerial Bombardment was however cancelled by an unnamed top official without formal communication reaching the Ground troops who continued advancement and consequently were trapped in the ambush and heavily fired upon by the Terrorists.
The Defence Headquarters has said nothing on the attack so far, but an investigation is said to have been ordered to look into the attack.
This attack occurred barely 2 months after a previous attack in the same area claiming the lives of about 20 soldiers.
