Benue state Govt applauds Establishment of IDPs by Federal Government
Governor of Benue state, Gabriel Suswam has commended the establishment of a camp for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state by the Federal Government.
The Deputy governor, Chief Steve Lawani, while welcoming the Presidential Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation in Makurdi, said:
“We had our own share of the heavy flood disaster that visited 22 states in Nigeria, including Benue. For most of us it was the first time in our lives to witness the heavy overflow of River Benue and its devastating effects on the people.
“Though we were on hand in performing our responsibility to the people, the federal government assisted the state with a lot of relief materials and funds to mitigate the hardships of the IDPs in the state.”
The leader of the Presidential Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation, John Owoicho, disclosed that the plans for the camp include an administration block, mini warehouse, and clinic.
He said: “We are going to construct two blocks for the male and female persons respectively. We also have administration block, clinic, warehouse, generator room among other facilities.
“The project which will cost N300 million will be funded by the committee and the incoming administration, would not affect the ongoing project which is going on across the 22 states.”
