Bayern Munich Rues Missed Chances Against Manchester City despite 1-0 Win
Bayern Munich players have bemoaned their inability to score more goals in their narrow victory over Manchester City in the Champions League group stage meet on Wednesday.
The Bundesliga champions salvaged a win via defender Jérôme Boateng’s 90th-minute goal despite having 60% of the possession and most of the chances.
Although City’s goalkeeper Joe Hart was an almost impenetrable wall, Munich were almost left to rue poor finishes from Thomas Müller and Robert Lewandowski as they fired into the side-netting from close range early in the match. In yet another competitive match, former Borussia Dortmund striker, Lewandowski, failed to score and his performance marked more missed opportunities.
After the game, captain Philipp Lahm: “We had huge chances in the first half and over 90 minutes we had the far better opportunities to score. We are happy with the winning start and the three points but obviously we could have scored much earlier and it may have turned out to be an easier game than it was.”
Goal scorer, Boateng said: “Not everything was super today but we fought until the end and we were then rewarded.”
“What is very positive is that we carved out that many scoring chances,” said Robben. “I think we are on the right track.”
