The Bayelsa State Government has suspended nine teachers in Community Secondary School, Aleibiri, Ekeremor Local Government Area, for dereliction of duty.

In a statement released by Mr Daniel Iworiso-Markson on Saturday in Yenagoa, Governor Seriake Dickson’s Chief Press Secretary, he said the teachers were sacked because they were not at their duty posts when the governor paid an unscheduled visit to the school during a “thank-you tour”, and expressed dismay at the attitude of some teachers to duty.

The Statement said that Dickson would not condone indiscipline in his administration and the teachers would remain suspended pending the outcome of the findings of a disciplinary panel.

“Too often teachers in our various schools, especially those in the communities, have a record of not showing up in classrooms to carry out work for which they are being paid. The same is true for nurses and doctors who are employed to provide medical services in our communities.

“We will no longer condone this wanton negligence of duty going on in the state civil service.”
