Manchester United are still yet to secure their first competitive win under Louis van Gaal as Jack Rodwell’s equaliser gave Sunderland a 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.

Juan Mata put United ahead in the 17th minute, providing a close-range finish to Antonio Valencia’s cross but Rodwell made it even for the Black Cats duck 13 minutes later by heading in a Sebastian Larsson corner.

Mata’s goal was however enough to see the Red Devils get their first point of the new English Premier League season.

Stoke City also secured their first point of the season against ten-man Hull City at the KC Stadium through a late goal from Ryan Shawcross.

James Chester was sent off with just 14 minutes on the clock but Nikica Jelavic’s finish just before the half-time whistle put the hosts ahead. Phil Bardsley made it 1-1 for the visitors in the 83rd minute.

Tottenham Hotspur however, in their first home game, thrashed fellow London side Queens Park Rangers 4-0 to move to the top of the table.
