Bafarawa calls for review of PDP manifesto
Former Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, on Wednesday called for an urgent review of the manifesto of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Bafarawa, who made the call in Sokoto at a news briefing, said “the current manifesto of the party, which was formulated in 1998, was obsolete and due for review.
According to him, the review is to ensure that the manifesto of the party captures some emerging challenges, which were not envisaged in 1998.
“A manifesto is the cardinal principle, vision and mission of any party.
“The manifesto is also the platform of running government at all levels. The manifesto elucidates the lofty ideals, programmes and policies of any party.
“The president and governors elected under the various political parties are not respecting the manifestoes of their parties,” he said.
Bafarawa stressed the need for strong political parties that will have control over those elected under their platforms.
“If the party is not strong, the government will not be strong,” he added.
He expressed optimism that the present security challenges facing the country would soon be a thing of the past.
He explained that the task ahead was for Nigerians to cooperate with security agencies in their resolve towards providing political platform for peaceful conduct of political activities.
Bafarawa called for more political tolerance and understanding among politicians in the country for peace progress and political stability
He urged leaders of political parties to work towards preventing political violence and use of thugs.
According to him, credible elections will only be reality if politicians shun violence for peaceful conduct of electoral process.
